Importing my vector octopus (created in Fireworks 4) into Flash 5 was easy!
Open Flash 5. Start a new movie. Make sure you select a frame (most likely Frame 1)
FILE>IMPORT>
Navigate to the Fireworks .PNG file
Choose the setting of IMPORT EDITABLE OBJECTS.
The image might not look exactly like the image you created in FIREWORKS. The textures and gradients are not imported. But you can add different strokes and fills in Flash. I also used MODIFY>SMOOTH to smooth out some of the selected paths.
I converted the octopus to a symbol. Then started a brand new movie, and dragged a copy of the newly created octopus symbol.
On a new layer at the bottom of my movie, I added a weed symbol I made, duplicated and resized/flipped it several times.
Notice the file size in this Flash movie. Only 7k!!! If I imported the FLATTENED .png image into a flash movie, it would have been a file size of at least 72k!
